Systems Integrator – Understanding the Client Relationship

As a systems integrator, you are trying to work effectively with another company creating an effective IT network for them. Keeping your clients happy is key to making money and getting referrals. This should be pretty easy if you remember three simple things.

Clients Will Be Unavailable

Sometimes you are simply not going to be able to get in touch with your clients. Like you, they have meetings and other tasks to take care of on a daily basis. To save yourself some serious frustration, I would suggest that you schedule regular times for meetings or phone conversations.

Designate the Decision Maker

Your contact person will not always be the decision maker for the company. You need to determine who is the decision maker and try to keep them in the loop on the project. Otherwise, progress will be slowed or come to a complete halt.

Clearly Explain Your Job

You need to let the client know exactly what you do. Explain each step of the project clearly and give details and milestones so that they'll know what to expect. Clients are more likely to be satisfied when they know what to expect.
