Obtaining business networking referrals is key to running your own IT consulting firm. When you're new to town, though, they can be hard to get if you don't know where to look. Many computer consultants experience this issue as a move can be one of the major factors pushing someone to start their own business.
The funny thing is that you've already made several great business networking referrals just by moving. Think about it. You've probably talked to a realtor, and they are truly the ones who know everybody in the community and all the local news. Maybe you met with mortgage specialists, attorneys, and accountants who are all important contacts. Everyone you need to know may already be within your reach.
Start getting the word out to your associates at these businesses. If possible, talk to them about their personal IT needs. Who knows, they may have been looking for someone just like you. Put these contacts to work as you continue to get involved in the community by joining the Chamber and other organizations.
